'You are travelling around a country and then you find a place you really like where you can do heaps of things and the people are cool and you can stay at this house for free, so you think youll stay a week, which turns into a forntight, which turns into three weeks and then a month, and every day you're like "i'll leave tomorrow for SURE"! but then another party, another joint, another gig later and you're back at square one. After a while you start doubting you're ever going to leave but you're running out of money and instead of doing all the cool things this city offers you find yourself on the couch all day smoking joints and hating yourself for not leaving and not doing anything. So then you finally are about to leave and someone wants to start a band with you. And the people at the house who you thought by now were sure to hate you, are so used to you being there and not ever leaving that they tell you not to leave as you are now part of the dynamic. Which turns you into this sort of anti-slack-hero who's popular for not doing anything and hating yourself. which is kinda cool.. but you really gotta leave. But this rut is just so comfortable, and you're too stoned to leave today.. thats it, you'll leave tomorrow for sure.'
I LOVE Garage Rock! Especially authentic old school Garage rock. It's the twang and jangle of the guitar, the suits, the fresh and timeless melodies and the absolute ruckus that does it for me. There are a few bands doing it well these days, like Thee Oh Sees and The Black Lips, but today I'm gonna post some of my fave youtube garage clips!

They're playing by a pool! Check out the fat guitarist and his solo!

The Neanderthals! Costumes? check. Caveman go-go girls? Check. Hunchback? Check. Perfect.

The 13th Floor Elevators are killer, this song has a classic melody and great vocals.

Bule Bule!!! True Mexican Garage by Los Rockin Devils!

MC5 are THE band. I love the intro with the girl and the balloons.

SO I thought I'd share some interesting links and gentle musings. I'm sick you see, and bedridden (have you heard The Bedridden? They're the best Aussi band ever) so sitting here and actually focusing on things for a change, thinking, well I should produce or create something.. and I worry you know, about this addiction to production and creativity.. yet I worry even more about my lack of production or creativity.. both bother me, the drive to create, when half the time I just want to interact and watch, and also the drive to be still and enjoy, with this constant undercurrent commanding me to produce, progress, share.

There's these bugs flying around in my room, they've been here for five days now, I feel like i'm in Africa, if one comes near me I'm gonna kill it.

Agh distracted, distraction, constant, relentless. I usually have 8 tabs open, and I am wondering if this is good or bad.. I kinda have been in a weird place lately where I can't tell between two days ago or two weeks ago, memories are just a big jumble, a mass of stuff that hapenned at some point.. How paradoxic that when my life is the most exciting I have trouble finding time to write it down, and when it's crap and slow I have all the time in the world to write down every single cup of tea and dull meander from bedroom to fridge..

I found this interesting article on The Benefits of Distraction - http://nymag.com/news/features/56793 - I liked the tone in which it spoke to me. Basically we all have ADHD, people think it's gonna fuck us up in the future, the writer thinks it's going to make our brains actually better multitasking information processing units and I tend to agree with him. (Our brains will always ADAPT).

Here's the recipe for the tea im drinking right now. (I got it off Ben).
  • Ginger slices
  • Garlic slices
  • Chili bits
  • Honey
  • Cinnammon
  • Lemon
  • Hot Water

BLAM. IT's good for what ails ya!

Now here's a bunch of links I've found interesting lately..

An Interview with Kareem Etouny (designer of the game Little Big Planet) - What is interesting is how he says that being original is the oldest most thin thing one can do. He sez creating something original for originalitys sake means its divorced from thousands of years of human imagination. I agree. The desire to be original can be stunting.

More New Math - A bunch of interesting, funny and true equations.

Tonematrix - A fun online synth very much like the Tenori-On, cool sounds and it's soothing.

Pikelet Clip - Pikelet is a Melbourne musician who I really enjoy. She use to drop by to colaborate with our old housemate and she's always super nice. Her music is made through melodic layered acoustic, electronic and vocal melodies. She reminds me a little of Juana Molina. I really dig it.

I have a lot more stuff to share but I think I'll theme it.
Enjoy this Bedridden playlist! They are awesome. Or were rather. They came from Canberra and moved to Adelaide, their singer Baterz was a Haemophiliac who contracted HIV through a contaminated bllod transfusion when he was young. Baterz died at 33. One of Australias least recognized and most deserving songwriters. Enjoi!

The Penguin Debacle -

Ok so I don't know if you know (you may not know) but I hate penguins. I've written about this previously (look here). Now a few odd things have happenned lately, and it comes off as some sort of cosmic joke. So for a bit of background.. people get really upset when I say I don't like penguins, as if there's something wrong with having an opinion on these animals. Personally I think they're lame and should have given up their boring existance a long time ago, many a long argument have risen from these views when expressed in public. Ha, ok thats it, funny joke, Pablo doesn't like Penguins, the end. But no, it seems the universe wants to have a say in this too.

I got some DMT from my friend in Tasmania, DMT is meant to be the 'spirit drug' it affects your pineal gland and is the active chemical in Ayuhasca. I decided to share it with my housemate Stewart, prior to taking it Stewart joked 'Hey what if you take it and you find out your spirit guide is a Penguin' 'Ha!' we laughed 'As if!', and took the drug.

It was amazing, within 5 seconds of inhaling my room became an ancient sacred cave and all the pictures on my wall became saturated geometrical patterns with ancient wise faces serenely looking at me with wisdom and patience. It started to flow and glow and as I sat there transfixed I couldn't help but smile, avoiding Stewarts eye contact (it's not a social drug).
I looked around and saw the picture of a Penguing on my wall that my friend Caroline tricked me into putting up one day (I drew a big X on it to be sure). Well here's this penguin STARING at me. Glowing gold making intense eye contact with me. I managed to blurt out 'HOLY SHIT! IT IS A PENGUIN!' before tripping some more and then euphorically coming back to reality to laugh about it with Stew. The trip lasted about 20 mins and I am sure we scratched only the surface of the experience. The point is tho, the penguin was there, staring at me. The weirdo.

Three days later after an amazing weekend with a friends and couch surfers I went for a walk along the streets of Brunswick. It's hard rubbish currently, so the front of every second house has piles of junk and artifacts, boxes full of trash and goodies which everyone can go through and take home a cupboard or chair or whatever. I found an ancient radio with built in record player this way. However on my way home I found a giant inflatable penguin! As soon as I looked at it a very cute girl appeared from nowhere and said to me 'Take it! I would'.
I knew this was too much coincidence to ignore. I had no choice. I took the giant penguin home and inflated it. Now he's in my house.

What else can I say but the penguin is a creep. He stares at me and I don't like it. He's also very big. Not only that but he beats me up. I left my camera on in my room to catalogue this behavior.

As you can see he's a jerk. He's making me his bitch and there's no getting rid of him, it's cosmic.

So im thinking, holy shit.. what if my spirit guide is a Penguin.. and what if he hates me.. or maybe he's right in my face because he needs to be..

This reminded me of something.. my first ever acid trip, I didn't know I was on acid at the time, i'd been drunk also. At one point in the night I flipped out and punched my awesome friend Simo on the head. It was awful.

However the thing that started it all was Pingu! That ABC show of that hyperactive penguin screaming gibberish at everyone. That was on the television the moment I lost my shit. Pingu was ON THE SCREEN. there were rainbows shooting out its mouth. I thought i was crazy! I punched Simo!
Holy shit the penguin was there from the start! I even wrote about it on my blog! Look Here .

WTF.

I did some research on spirit guides and penguins, this is what I uncovered.

'Those who have Penguin as a guide are encouraged to become more polite
and attentive to how the social structure around them is holding together. Perhaps you are being called to pay honor to your mate or to your
friends.
Perhaps you need to appease someone where you have been harsh
with your words or actions.

Penguin also moves in straight lines when they are gathered in groups and moves with orderliness and a sense of purpose. They are determined and focused. If you lack determination and focus, ask Penguin to assist you in strengthening these areas.'

Determination and Focus! My mortal enemies!! Also I've been feeling like I've been letting my friends down and not giving them enough attention. SHIT. Now it's IN MY FACE, In my HOUSE and beating me up. OK I GET IT GET IT GET IT. But I really don't want to.

At least it's not all bad.

'Pay attention to Penguins color. Black and white, ying and yang, magic and mystery! The whiteness of the Penguin represents the awakening spirit and the light of all that is - as does the whiteness where it resides. The black represents the unknown, the density, and the different dimensions. The balance in Penguins color shows you how to balance and merge the darkness and the light, and to move between worlds as the Penguin moves between the sea and the land - two different worlds. Feel honored that Penguin is your guide for your journey of magic and mystery is moving in a new direction.'

We'll see about that.. PENGUIN.

I've been making stop motion animations with Lisa (Lisaaaaa) so i got inspired and did this one on my own with my built in mac camera and a program called 'istopmotion'. Its my first but i really like it! It makes me want to STOP MOTION THE WORLD!
