WHAT THE HOLY FUCKING SHIT

A 15 year old boy gets killed by ONE police officer in the streets of Greece and the country erupts in flames and chaos, the streets burn, cars get torched, the pm is almost driven out of parliament.

A 15 year old boy gets killed by THREE police officers in the streets of Victoria and the all the police commissioner has to say on the matter is ' "The family's rightly very, very upset,'.

And on the Sydney Morning Herald the number ONE story is 'Jennifer Aniston gets nude for mans magazine', compared to the killing of an Australian citizen which is number 5 on the list of importance. I guess I could expect as much from Sydney, but come on, she's insipid, old and mediocre.

Im befuddled.

Hey, how'd everybody get in my room?

I just got home to find my room covered in peabody language cards! My bed was lined with girls, the floor full of men, my desk had a typewriter and letter, there's cards of dirty dishes, luckily there's a maid card too so she can clean that up, I even got a typewriter and hat stand with hats.

Did you do this Saskia?
I carry my camera around my shoulder everywhere I go!

I want to get better at taking photos and having a camera by my side is a great motivator.

Here's some photos I took today.

Audacity of hope - Science vs Religion - Aesthetic Police - Find Jobs -

I made a large life size paste up of Ripley/Sigourney Weaver from Aliens holding Newt and gun! It's from the final scene of the most excellent movie when she enters the queens nest, and is one of Sigourneys most iconic of promotional shots.

To me at least, it is a symbol of nurturing and strength. I truly love this image and I'm glad to be sharing it with random people. (Next in line is going to be Linda Hamilton/Sarah Connor holding a gun and wearing her fuck off 80's trucker sunglasses.)

It's my first and I was on my own so its not perfect but its there, proudly displayed by the old Med Centre on the main street.

To make the glue I used wheatpaste. I printed the image onto a set of 12 A3 sheets. I used a program called 'Rasterbator' to split the original and make it big.

What I want to know is how people print large paste ups on only one big sheet of paper?

I drew this dude on one of the new street bins, I think I'm going to draw one for every bin since the eye is already there!

I like Poskas.
My Zine is now available online.

It's called Terminator 2. A collection of writings and thoughts from the last year, with contributions from Rachel, Louis, Megan and Sophie. It's also available at Polyester and Sticky (Melbourne).

Actually I like the online version better. I hope you enjoy it!

I'm pretty amazing!

I write a long blog entry today about how internet access in Australia is in danger of being burdened by a useless firewall which purports to protect users from illegal content, whilst actually offering no real solution and slowing down users access.. and then half an hour later.. this comes on the news.

Labor Plan To Censor The Internet In Shreds

"The Government's plan to censor the internet is in tatters, with Australia's largest ISP saying it will not take part in live trials of the system and the second largest committing only to a scaled-back trial."

*Wipes hands*

Thank ME Australia. Results, and QUICK!

The internet is under attack.

Recent developments in the news have me worried that there is a strong push towards controlling content and access to content on the internet for ridiculous reasons more related to controlling our browsing habits and conceptions of information access, than about stopping any kind of malicious pictures or info getting to the wrong persons hands.

In Australia we currently have the looming great unspoken of firewall. Which has received scant attention in the pages of the morning paper. The little attention it did receive from Fairfax media was quickly brushed aside, with a Labours communications minister even calling the company to express his disappointment in their covering of the issue.

The fact is it's a repressive and inelegant solution to a complex problem. But whatever. Blocking www.kiddyporn.com will do nothing to stop the spread of illegal material. There's P2P networks, messageboards, newsgroups, and IRC where illegal pictures can be distributed, and what about the ACTUAL MAIL?

It's not hard for a pedo to drop some gigs onto a $10 usb and mail it to his fellow ring members. (I doubt the mailman will start opening every package to check if there is illegal digital or analogue content within.) Simply put, it can NOT be stopped by the conventional means of blocking access to the most obvious of sites. It must be treated at the root, and that's something that dinosaur politicians can not fathom as it involves action far more complex than knee jerk reactive laws that can be easily explained in a populist paragraph.

"Uh, we're going to ban all the bad sites".

Its a case of Problem Reaction Solution. In their ignorance the governments of the world also have a more insidious plan veiled behind their schemes for the removal of access to illegal material.

Government is a virus created for many reasons, but its imperative action and reason for exisiting is to remain in power. Due to this, and since its sole existence is based on fighting for its very survival, it is capable of many a malicious and impressive feat.

So without further ado, the problem is this - (AND ITS THE SAME PROBLEM TO THEM REGARDING LIFE, FORESTS, PEOPLE, NGOS, NETWORKS ETC)..

Problem - The internet is wild and we cant control it
Reaction - We're scared, it's a threat.
Solution - Find ways to control it.

So a story is sold to the public in order to phase in this prepared solution.

Problem sold - The internet is wild and full of like, dark, creepy old men, waiting to stab you with their razor sharp dick.
Reaction created- Alarm, Fear, Public demands a solution. 'Not RAZOR sharp!'
Solution implemented - Internet censorship, firewalls, busts to make an example of others etc.

The goal is not to stop the spread of illegal information. They know thats impossible. The aim is to decrease the rate of information sharing, to analyze it and to create culture of guarded fear and self censorship in the publiv.

Most of this has been said before and is well understood. Why are we so docile to contunally accept these Trojan 'solutions'?

In a way we are so disempowered in the actual scheme of things, that we just know better.. public uproar does little to change a governments mind (Iraq anyone?), letter writing is a joke, as is blogging about it (as in this post). What can be done?

All I can argue for is the 100 monkey effect, all my hopes lie in the creation of conscious awareness in the ether of the collective human spirit. (sorry for using that word, but I didn't want to write 'conscious' twice in the one sentence).

I truly believe, I have to believe, that this is the only way change is truly entrenched in the world. Talking about it, singing about it, knowing about it.. damn it's so hippy, yet it adds up. All the change in the world has been driven by the generation that realizes that so many things taken for granted are not real at all. And as it was, so it will be.. however until that time I'm worried and somewhat impotent.. the censorship is real, the attempts to muffle the oneness of our cyberconscious one mind spreading information are calculated and strong.. we can only wait it out and in the meantime, accept it for the ridiculous darkness it represents.

Some topical news stories to illustrtate my point -

Fake Simpsons Cartoon is 'Porn'

An appeal judge in Australia has ruled that an animation depicting well-known cartoon characters engaging in sexual acts is child pornography.

Queensland Man Charged Over Baby Swinging Video

A Queensland man has been charged for re-publishing on a video-sharing site a viral video of a man swinging a baby around like a rag doll.

The Great Australian Firewall

The Australian government is due to start a series of field trials this month in order to filter websites that are harmful to children.

Wikipedia Blocked in The UK due to Album Cover

Six British ISPs are filtering access to Wikipedia after the site was added to an Internet Watch Foundation child-pornography blacklist, according to Wikipedia administrators.

The list could go on, but these are all taking place THIS WEEK. Some thing is not right.. and the worst of it is, that this is only a symbolic representation of what is taking place everywhere, as I said before, with the destruction of old growth forests, the destruction of indigenous communities, terrorizing of separatist groups, decimation of the land, creation of artificial environments, printed lies, media monopolies etc.. It's all symbolic of one thing - Psychopathic pathological destruction of life for internal fear management and the creation of artificial environments to ease the fear of life.

Because the two things that no infinite amount of money will ever allow powerful interests to control are LIFE and TRUTH.

They fear life so they create death. Cultural death, environmental death, spiritual death..

The forest is wild, lets kill it.
The truth is beyond our control, lets stifle it.

And so it goes..

All other reasons are mere excuses. The whole game is one of creation of artificiality, manageable chunks, numbers. They see it this way - If we can turn it into numbers, we can manage it, if we can manage it, our fortune is safe. Not only that, but a number is abstract that we can fudge it, double it, multiply it, and create wealth out of nothing. First I had 4 now I have 70! Look at these numbers. SO MANY NUMBERS!

They who seek to continue holding onto their artificial power structures are Death and Lie addicts. They like death because it's immediate, and they can manage it. They create lies because they can understand them. Now how to end this in the obligatory hopeful uplift?.. (Hope is a slut by the way..)

It is always trite to put the obvious into words without having an experiential understanding of it. I say all this because I felt it from the forests. So I'm retelling it because I can -

'Above all comes imagination, we are always imagining, we are a product of our imagination, and we as a species, collectively imagine that we can't imagine, that we don't imagine, but we do, we always are, it's the only way possible, we will imagine something else, we will imagine something else, so imagine it..'
"There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. When there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws." - Ayn Rand

"We are always on the verge of a breakthrough"

I've been reading a book named Psycho Cybernetics which is simply fantastic, up there with The Neverending Story, Calvin and Hobbes, and The Church Of The Subgenius in the Creme de La Creme of best reads I have ever undertaken.

The book basically deals with the psychology and science of self image and imagination. With the basic premise that we learn by doing, by constantly receiving negative feedback impulses which allow us to realize the negative trajectory and re align our course in order to meet our specific goal, it goes on to explain that we imagine our self image; upon which all our reality and perception of reality is built upon.

Imagine a different self image and everything changes, things impossible become possible according to our self expectation.

The book argues against the study of past hurts which need to be dug up in order to be 'overcome', (Freudian psychology) and instead recommends to let sleeping dogs lie and to move, move on, move.

It states that often in movement we fail, take the wrong choices, make the wrong decisions, and falter. However our brain does not remember or memorize these negative actions, in fact it lets them go and only reinforces the positive successes. This is the way babies learn to walk and talk, by making many mistakes, letting them go and remembering (automatically) the achievements, which reinforce in the brain until it becomes effortless habit. What this means is that the more something is done, the better we will get at it, regardless of talent, disposition or ability.

I've found this book particularly inspiring in it's scientific explanation of imagination and in its warm wise tone, it's much like a self help book without any of the wankery. The book was written in the 50's and reminds me much of the sort of wisdom my Grandfather shares regarding being assertive and not afraid to suck.

Which brings me to the plug of this blog entry by Merlin Mann on 43 Folders..

Photography, and the Tolerance for Courageous Sucking

..

This weekend I spent it at the incredible Folk Rhythm & Life festival with 1499 beautiful talented open people who shared in dancing and joy, swimming naked in water holes, healing each other and singing together. In this time I got a Tarot reading by a really beautiful intuitive girl who informed me that I am searching for inspiration and that I have a tendency to be mean to myself and to criticize my creations. It's totally true, it comes from my fear of sucking.. I think the fear stems from my childhood, when I would draw pictures for my mum and sometimes she wouldn't pay attention to the finished products. It's really not that bad and she often loved my pictures, but being a sensitive kid and believing all I did was a masterpiece, I would get so upset at her lack of notice that I would start planning my suicide or escape from home on the spot.

I was like four to six years of age, but the emotions were real... It's weird and over the top, but It must have had some effect on me.. also my old band falling apart could have helped and also having shit hacked on me by some of my old friends for trying to express myself.. I guess It was a lesson in toughen the fuck up, but at the time I soaked up the negativity like a sponge.

Since then releasing my true creativity, on my own, without a band or a backup, has been really scary, because it means getting naked and revealing myself. I know that's what people want to see, and I (like everyone) have the ability to share it... but it's really scary at times. This weekend really brought all that to focus, and for me it was extremely inspiring to realize that what I hold. is true and special.

The way I've been feeling and thinking.. it's really a time to get on with it. For example I've been taking my camera everywhere, overcoming the fear to suck, and have decided to take too many photos until the intuition grows and the photos improve. I reckon that attitude relates to all other aspects of life, taking photos freely is the same as making music and art freely, writing and singing freely, and since it operates on the same level it has the same effect, it helps you become free from yourself.

So yes, on the verge of a breakthrough, and once this one's broken through, there will be another, and I'll be on the verge of that too..

The Florentine Valley - Tasmania

These are photos i took a month ago at the majestic Florentine Valley. About 2 hours drive north of Hobart. It has been unchanged since the ice age, it is a prehistoric and ancient forest. The place is thick with life and wisdom, it truly feels like being in middle earth.

The area has been earmarked by Tasmanias logging industry for clearfelling. The issue is insane, since the company responsible (called 'Gunns') last year cost the Australian government $200 Million dollars in subsidies and only generated a $60 million dollar profit (since it can no longer compete in the global markets due to free trade), however this hasn't stopped them from going ahead with the building of a brand new 2.2 Billion dollar pulp mill.

It's an issue taking up a lot of my energy. My ex housemate has just been sued by Gunns for protesting at their depot last week and halting a days operations.

From todays news..

Gunns sues woodchip mill protesters - wants damages for actions made by protesters which are likely to "publicise the political beliefs of the defendants, and thereby gain media publicity".

http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/its-time-to-stop-and-get-off-the-gunns-pulp-mill-merrygoround-20090107-7byn.html

It's unbelievable that they can sue for 'publicizing political beliefs'.

The destruction is absolute. Trees are ripped out of their roots along with everything else in the area (fungi, bacteria, animals). mulched, turned into woodchips, exported to Japan, made into low quality paper and then sold back to Australia at a loss for us and a profit for Japan.

The leftover logged/clear felled area, is then firebombed with napalm by planes to "re fertilize the soil" after which. once the fires have died down, carrots laced with poison are littered in the decimated area to kill any straggler animals (wallabies, potoroos, tasmanian devils) so that they wont eat the new plantations which are completely homogenized.

It is extremely difficult to put into words the importance and meaning of these forests. I have known about this situation for a while, but it is one thing to know about the trouble on an intellectual level and a completely different thing to have been there surrounded in the timeless beauty of a forest unchanged since before man and then knowing that it is going to be fingerbanged.

It makes me really sad.

Please go and find out more about this living breathing middle earth and go visit. It's beautiful, cheap, the crew there will look after you and the forest will appreciate it. These forests are ancient, timeless and priceless, and they need our collective conscious support, even if it's purely mental.. I'm sure they would appreciate it.

This is my new shirt design. I love Cephalopods. It's an obsession that has been growing more and more every day. Such intelligent, graceful, alien creatures!

I love this quote - "When Brad Seibel's 2000 paper suggested squids brood, it was called "erroneous." Years later, with the help of Steve Haddock, Seibel had the opportunity to take a submersible 7,000 feet below the sea where he captured this footage confirming his hypothesis. Take that, cephalopod traditionalists!"
